The MMO began in 1990 with an old pickup and remodeled trailer as the quixotic private practice of a local physician. It was federally designated as a Rural Health Clinic in 1993, turned over to a community board of directors as a 501c3 in 1997, and became a Federally Qualified Health Center in 2002. The clinic currently has 14 staff members, ten of whom provide direct patient services, and an annual budget of almost one million dollars.

MMO
Board of Directors |
The vision of our staff and board continues to be universal access to healthcare. In our corner of the world no one need go without medical treatment because the MMO provides care free of charge to all persons with income below 200% of poverty level and no one is turned away due to inability to pay. The MMO visits 9
sites on a regular schedule and provides a broad spectrum of outpatient
services. In addition to providing direct service, our staff use their experience to
advocate for constructive health and social policy.
The MMO is supported by a combination of state and federal funds, private grants, contributions, and reimbursement for covered services from Medicaid, Medicare, and state categorical programs. Many of our patients are uninsured and many of the critical services we provide, such as substance abuse counseling and case management, are not covered by third party payors. We depend on
donations and volunteers to make ends meet.
