Loleta

Loleta is a town of 750 whose population includes many uninsured and undocumented Mexican immigrants. Most of the immigrants are recently arrived from rural parts of Mexico and work in ranches, dairies, bulb farms, and the lower paying timber jobs. Families often live doubled up in housing which is substandard. 78% percent of the students at the local elementary school qualify for free and reduced cost school lunch program. Major areas of health need include mental health, reproductive health care, treatment of tuberculosis, and pediatric obesity and caries.
